Discovered a fun method for harvesting crab. Wanted to share the method and the tools of the trade. Each of the pictures is a quick Amazon link to the respective item. The casting rod is a halibut rod by Okuma: SST A Series Cork Grip 30/40 Ton Blank Lightweight Rod about 65 inches long. We liked the Daiwa BG 8000 reel, BG means big. The line is 80 lb spider wire. The line is strong but be prepared to cut it. A boat drove right into our line at the pier and would have taken the pole and reel if not for a quick knife cut. Yes we lost the crab trap but not the pole and reel. Then there is the castable trap. Danielson makes a variety of them. Then to really snug that bait, usually a chicken leg, on to the trap wire ties.
